Contributor handbook
Contributor Guidelines
AskLyrics is a community lyrics and song-knowledge platform. Anyone can add songs, transcriptions, notes and information. These guidelines keep contributions accurate, fair to the people who make the music, and useful to readers.
What we accept
- Songs & transcriptions — real, released recordings, with lyrics that match the linked audio.
- Community notes — explanations of a line, its references or meaning, backed by context rather than guesswork.
- Song information — credits, release facts, album and version details.
Rights & permission
When you submit, you tell us your rights basis — that you are the author or rightsholder, hold a license or written authorization, or are contributing public-domain material. You confirm your contribution is accurate and that you are entitled to share it, and you grant AskLyrics permission to store, review, format and display it. Submitting does not guarantee publication, and content may be corrected, declined or removed. Finding the same words elsewhere online is not permission.
If you are a rightsholder and believe something here should not be, our DMCA / takedown process removes it on valid notice.
How review works
A person reviews every submission — we confirm the song is real, compare the lyrics to the recording, and check your rights basis. Approved song submissions publish immediately and you’re credited. Community notes and information are reviewed before they appear on a page.
Credit & points
Approved contributions appear on your public contributor profile and earn points — lyrics submissions, information and well-received notes all count toward your standing on the contributor leaderboard. You can also choose to contribute anonymously in your account settings.
Conduct
- Don’t impersonate an artist, publisher or another user.
- Keep notes on-topic and respectful; no harassment, hate or spam.
- Don’t submit content you have no right to share.
