AskLyrics connects lyrics with the recording facts needed to identify the right version: artist credit, release, duration, chart history and available songwriter information. Timed lyric cues and validated video embeds create a follow-along view only when both elements are present.
Community knowledge with visible stewardship
See who changed or checked a page
Members can submit authorized lyrics, corrections, contextual information and line notes. Published pages identify their steward and editorial status. Editorial desk accounts are labeled as organizations; they are not presented as independent fans or fictional people.
Rights and corrections are part of the product
Give rightsholders a clear path
A useful lyric library must also record provenance. Submissions remain in review until their rights basis and accuracy can be checked. Rightsholders have a dedicated notice process, and readers can flag title, credit, chart, video or lyric errors from the relevant page.
What a finished song page contains
One record per recording, not per song title
Every published page carries the readable lyric, the credited performer, the stored release and duration, any songwriter information held for that recording, and the dated chart line if the song has one. Where a reviewed video and an ordered set of lyric timestamps both exist, the page adds follow-along playback that highlights the active line. Where they do not, the page says so instead of implying a feature it cannot deliver. Recording identifiers link the page to the specific version described, so a live take, a remix and an original release stay on separate records.
How the catalog grows
A daily, gated release rather than a bulk dump
The Billboard Hot 100 is rolled forward daily from an archived source, and a small number of songs are released from the queue each day. A queued song only becomes a published page once it holds a synced lyric, a validated video match, stored release facts and an artist profile with enough independent information to be useful. Songs that fail any of those checks stay queued and are retried, which is why the catalog grows steadily instead of arriving all at once with gaps in it.
Reading, saving and following
Accounts are optional and password-free
The catalog is fully readable without an account: search by song or artist, browse the chart, work through the genre shelves and the artist directory, or read the magazine guides on lyric analysis, credits and rights. Signing in through Google — AskLyrics stores no passwords — adds a saved-lyrics library with folders, the ability to follow contributors and be notified when they publish, and the standing to submit lyrics, notes and corrections that carry your name.
What AskLyrics is not
The limits are part of the description
AskLyrics is not Billboard and does not publish the chart; the ranking here is a dated editorial reference to a published chart, kept beside the lyric pages it points at. It is not a licensing agency and cannot grant permission to reproduce lyrics. It does not publish copied or machine-invented lyrics: text arrives from an authorized submission or a licensed provider record, or the page waits without it. Song titles, artist names and third-party identifiers remain associated with their respective owners.
